Jessica Oloroso is Executive Chef and Owner of Black Dog Gelato, where she crafts gourmet artisanal gelato and sorbet. Jessica is a Chicago native who started Black Dog Gelato after leaving her position as Pastry Chef at Stephanie Izard’s, Scylla. Her first scoop shop opened in 2007 in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood, followed in 2010 by her location in Roscoe Village.
Black Dog Gelato crafts artisanal gelato and sorbets. They make all their bases each day from scratch using simple ingredients: milk, cream, sugar and eggs. Black Dog Gelato blends the traditional method of making gelato with modern and inventive flavor combinations. Jessica’s is known for her signature flavors such as: Goat Cheese Cashew Caramel, Malted Vanilla, and Sesame Fig Chocolate Chip. Other Black Dog goodies include featured sundaes, whiskey bacon gelato bars, and gelato doughnut sandwiches.
Her gelato is also available in restaurants across Chicago, as well as catering events and festivals like Pitchfork Music Festival and Renegade Craft Fair. Black Dog has been featured in many print and online publications, including The Chicago Tribune, Huffington Post, Chicagoist, Edible Chicago, TimeOut Chicago’s “100 best things we ate (and drank) this year, Thrillist, and Conde Nast Traveler.
