Mary Nguyen Aregoni and Theresa Nguyen’s concept for Saigon Sisters was inspired by a family business their grandmother and mother operated in Vietnam in a bustling market similar to the Chicago French Market, which sold produce, rice, seafood, and prepared food.
As children, the market was an adventure where Mary and Theresa went daily to eat, play, and explore the many vendors and their delicious treats. Thirty years later, the two have come full circle to Chicago in a more modern environment, but with the same principles of offering fresh delicious food and products sourced from local suppliers.
Suu Nguyen, Mary and Theresa’s mom (aka Mama Suu), is still by their side assisting them on making the best broth for Pho, tasty dipping sauce for spring rolls, perfect dressing for the herb noodle salads, and tangy pickled veggies for the sandwiches (known as Banh mi). The ingredients focus on healthful, flavorful and aromatic herbs, spices, vegetables, seasoned meats and seafood from locally sourced farmers and purveyors.
Saigon Sister’s goal is to share and feed happiness through its delicious wholesome and healthy Vietnamese food and to conjure up that feeling of excitement and adventure that Mary and Theresa grew up with to the people of Chicago and its visitors.
